We regret to inform you that Platinum members can no longer guarantee the use of Platinum benefits to our guests. Resorts may choose to offer some or all these benefits to you during your stay, but they will be doing so only at their own discretion. We’ve learned that “corporate has taken the position that member’s Platinum benefits will not transfer to guests unless the member is present”. My understanding is that this “position” has been taken because it has become increasingly difficult for resorts to satisfy the expectations of all Platinum members and guests at the resort, particularly during peak periods, and they feel the members present should be given priority. Also, I believe the offering of these member benefits to nonmembers has proven to be a disincentive for guests of Platinum members to purchase their own membership contracts. Because we have a long history of both verbal and written documentation received from member services on this topic supporting our right to these benefits for our guests, we strongly disagree with corporate’s position. However, unfortunately, we have no legal recourse on this particular aspect of our contract. We will continue to do what we can to minimize the impact of this change on your vacation experience.
Many years ago, Vidanta came up with a promotional incentive called “Platinum status” as reward for members making a high dollar investment in their Grand Luxxe product. Exactly what the $ amount is for reaching Platinum status, Vidanta has not said, but the consensus not too long ago was that it was about $250,000. All Platinum status addendum language is identical for every owner that has it and it has remained the same since we first received ours almost 10 years ago. The specific benefits mentioned in the contract include (1) preferred room location, (2) preferred (expedited) check in process, (3) guaranteed restaurant reservations, (4) guaranteed golf tee times (5) guaranteed spa appointments, (6) preferred customer service line, and (7) butler service. Some resorts voluntarily started offering other benefits to Platinum members such as preferred Beach Club access and seating, but these newer benefits were never actually added to our contract.
